Art & Design
“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
Isaiah 64:8 ESV
Drawing lies at the heart of the Art curriculum at St Damian’s, enhancing pupil’s ability to communicate through visual means. Through KS3 pupils will learn about key art movements, a range of genres and how we can use Art to share our stories, traditions, and experience of current issues. They will develop their contextual understanding and ability to interpret artworks, draw and record from primary and secondary sources, use a wide range of materials, media, techniques and processes including painting, printmaking and sculpture and continually reflect on their work to make progress. At KS4 pupils start by building a portfolio of skills. They will gain a greater sense of independence creating personal and meaningful responses to a range of briefs, before undergoing an externally set exam. Studying Art will encourage creativity, develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, build confidence, self-expression, and a sense of individual identity.
